  • About
If you have an underactive thyroid you might have heard that you should stay away from cabbage and the rest of the brassica family. It is true that brassicas contain goitrogens that can inhibit the thyroid from synthesising thyroid hormones, but if you cook or ferment brassicas most of the goitrogens will be destroyed in the process. If you are worried, however, you can choose other vegetables to ferment.

There is a lot of sometimes conflicting dietary and health advice available that can confuse, even for a nutritionist. Although we all have a similar biology we are all individuals. What is good for your friend might not be good for you. My advice is that if you think certain foods are not good for you, then take them out of your diet for a while and only slowly reintroduce them. If you find you get unpleasant symptoms again then take them out for a longer period to see if your condition improves.
