  • About
The combination of battered and fried fish (frequently cod or white fish) with chips (know in the United States as french fries) originated in the United Kingdom in the mid-nineteenth century. Joseph Malin is credited with opening the first combined fish and chip shop in London in the 1860s. Fish and chips are commonly served with malt vinegar. In the United Kingdom, fish and chips are commonly served in an estimated eight thousand fish and chip shops, and the combination considered the United Kingdom’s national dish is popular in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa.
