In some areas corporations have contracted with public school districts to take over food service on site. Although service privatization has actually led to short-term improvements in the worst lunch programs, studies show that in the long term neither the cost ratio nor the quality is much improved, and in many cases quality and food choice and taste diminish, as does the student participation rate.
