  • About
Because customers who want quick food and vendors who supply that need have always existed, traditions of peddling food in the streets and markets have been known worldwide throughout the ages. In a former exhibit at the Field Museum in Chicago, panels of drawings in the reconstructed tomb of an Egyptian ruler who lived more than four thousand years ago reveal colorful evidence of a market. The drawings show vendors selling fruits, vegetables, fish, and other foodstuffs. One panel shows an official with a baboon, apparently keeping order.
