meadowsweet Filipendula ulmaria, a common wild herb of temperate climates in the northern hemisphere, whose fragrant clusters of creamy flowers and leaves have been used for flavouring various beverages and stewed fruits, besides having traditional medicinal uses and being much used for strewing purposes in medieval times.
