turnover a general term for a pasty made by folding a sheet of pastry over a lump of filling and sealing the edge. A circle of pastry gives a semicircular turnover; a square gives a triangular one. Turnovers range in size from tiny to large enough for several helpings, as in the family-sized version of the Cornish pasty.
