  • About

zander also known as pike-perch (because thought to display some characteristics of both the pike and the perch), Sander lucioperca, a large and carnivorous freshwater fish of C. and E. Europe, whose range has been extended westwards, even to E. Anglia in England, by introduction. A fully grown pike-perch may measure up to 1 m (40") and will eat other fish voraciously; indeed, it has been praised as an instrument for the conversion of inedible fish into edible (itself). Its favoured habitats are large lakes or slow-moving rivers.
