We have been growing courgettes in our potager for some years now although when we first arrived in the region they were not known. We try to pick them when they are no more than 12–15cm long. If you don’t search them out carefully from under their large leaves you can easily find yourself with a vegetable marrow. Our friend Alain who ploughs our vegetable patch for us sees no problem with that – ‘the bigger the better’ he says, ‘pour la soupe’.
