Buying Look for firm, shiny cherries with green stems. Avoid soft fruit with brown or moldy spots.

Storing Refrigerate in a plastic bag for up to 3 days, or freeze in a zippered plastic bag for up to 1 month.

Healthy tip Try to seek out sour cherries, which are very seasonal but widely available dried; they contain more nutrients than sweet cherries.

Using Eat fresh cherries on their own or with nonfat vanilla yogurt; add dried cherries to salads or trail mix, or use in baked goods.
