  • About

Family Clupeidae

REMARKS Maximum length 14 cm, common length 4 to 7 cm. Despite its small size, this species deserves a mention in the context of clupeoid fish of the Black Sea. It is found in the western waters of that sea and in the Azov Sea, often in brackish or even fresh water; and is a food fish (usually eaten in salted form) of some importance in Bulgaria and Romania.
