Family Serranidae

REMARKS Maximum length 80 cm. Colour generally grey, but may be very pale (as the name mérou blanc would suggest) with rosy tints on the back. Most specimens have a couple of distinctive white lines across each cheek area. This is the most slender of the four mérous, and is found in the southern rather than the northern parts of the Mediterranean. Abundant around Cyprus.
