Epinephelus caninus (Valenciennes)

  • About

Family Serranidae

REMARKS Maximum length 120 cm. This species is of a dark grey colour and has a bulky body like Epinephelus guaza. It seems to be the least common of the four mérous in the Mediterranean, being found in Algerian and Tunisian waters but not often elsewhere. It may be met under the name mérou blanc, which is confusing (cf. the entry above).
