  • About

Family Sparidae

REMARKS Maximum length 45 cm. Brown/grey back and sides, marked by seven or eight thin vertical stripes. This fish is famous for being crafty. According to Randon and Sammut (Fishes of Maltese Waters) it used to hide from fishermen in rocky crevices, but gradually realized that this made it an easy target for spear-guns and harpoon-guns and then took to hiding among weeds instead.
