REMARKS Maximum length 30 cm. A big-eyed fish with a noticeable black band round the junction of body and tail. Predominantly grey.

CUISINE Good to eat, especially if one takes the advice of the saying, ‘L’oblade se mange quand elle ronronne l’abeille’ and eats it in the spring. Best grilled or cooked à la meunière.
