REMARKS Maximum length 25 cm. The coloration varies with age, sex and season. The back may be brownish or slate. Males in nuptial attire are brighter in appearance, with a broad blue band running along their sides and some yellow spots. The dark blotch on the side is always there. The species on the next page has it too, but is less deep in the body.
