REMARKS Maximum length 20 cm. Like the preceding species, this one is found through-out the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Its coloration varies with season and sex. The back is often greyish-brown or slate, with a hint of darker cross-bands on the females. Rows of blue spots, brighter on the males than the females, run along the sides.
