  • About

Family Sciaenidae

REMARKS Maximum length 50 cm. A smaller fish than the meagre, but deeper in the body. In Turkey they extract two white balls (otoliths) from the head and use them as an old wives’ remedy for urinary troubles. A French friend prefers to collect otoliths from the ombrine, and makes them into necklaces.
