Family Scombridae

REMARKS Maximum length 46 cm. Dark blue back, with dark blue wavy lines running part of the way down the sides, which are green. Found throughout the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

This species and the chub mackerel are not always distinguished in popular nomenclature. The Algerian name cavallo is used of both; so is the Roman maccarello and the name lacerto which appears in various forms on the west coast of Italy.
