REMARKS Maximum length 100 cm. Alletteratus refers to the marks like scribbling on the fish’s back. This is also the meaning of the Turkish name – literally, written upon tunny – and is indicated in numerous local Italian names such as letterato (Adriatic coast).

The range of this species includes the Caribbean area, where it is of some commercial importance.
