REMARKS Maximum length 100 cm. Easily distinguished from the other grey mullet by the transparent membranes which cover the eyes.

This species occurs in the Black Sea as well as throughout the Mediterranean and in the Bitter Lakes of the Suez Canal. Indeed its distribution is world-wide in warm waters.
