Family Scophthalmidae

* The name pisi (or pissi or pisi baliği) is a difficult one. Having conveyed to the British Museum a fish from Istanbul which had been identified indubitably on the spot as a pisi I learned that it was, equally indubitably, a young brill. But there is evidence for associating the name also with other species (cf. pp. 155 and 158). A likely explanation is that in popular usage these two other species and young brill (which are all about the same size) share the name.
