Maximum length 22 cm. Light red body with a mauve headpiece. There is a similar species Aristeomorpha foliacea (Risso) of which the male may attain 23 cm. It is the subject of the drawing below. Its colours are darker (blood-red body, violet headpiece). It is gambero rosso in Italian and langostino moruno in Spanish. Otherwise the names are the same.
