Lilac Mushroom Agaricus porphyrizon P.D. Orton (illustrated 45% life size) Cap 4–10cm across, convex; whitish with purplish-lilac, adpressed scales and fibrils, darker at centre, bruising dull yellow; smooth. Stem 50–100Γ—12–20mm, clavate; white, staining yellow when touched; smooth; ring membranous, thin, simple. Flesh white, staining yellowish in stem, especially at base; taste and smell pleasant, of almonds. Gills free, crowded; white to pinkish, then brown. Spores 4.5–5.6Γ—3.2–3.8ΒΌ, ovate. Spore print deep brown. Habitat in mixed woodlands, mostly with conifers; early autumn. Uncommon. Unknown edibility.
