Orton (illustrated 45% life size) Cap 4β10cm across, convex; whitish with purplish-lilac, adpressed scales and fibrils, darker at centre, bruising dull yellow; smooth. Stem 50β100Γ12β20mm, clavate; white, staining yellow when touched; smooth; ring membranous, thin, simple. Flesh white, staining yellowish in stem, especially at base; taste and smell pleasant, of almonds. Gills free, crowded; white to pinkish, then brown. Spores 4.5β5.6Γ3.2β3.8ΒΌ, ovate. Spore print deep brown. Habitat in mixed woodlands, mostly with conifers; early autumn. Uncommon. Unknown edibility.
