I work as a food stylist for London magazines as well as writing recipes and I couldn’t be more emphatic about the importance of presentation. I’m not talking about dinnertime for the family, but if you’re having friends around just think about a few basic things to make your food look as good as it tastes:
- display food on shallow platters, which make food look better than deep bowls;
- chop and add herbs close to serving so they stay green and fresh;
- serve dips on plates, spread out with extra virgin olive oil drizzled over;
- show off your food on white servingware, as colour competes;
- don’t overcrowd the plate or platter;
- pick up stylish accents such as colourful chopsticks, serving spoons and dipping bowls;
- perk up the colour of brown food with fresh chopped herbs, sliced red chilli, a few cherry tomatoes or lemon and lime slices.
