REMARKS Maximum length may be over 1 metre, but the normal maximum is about 75 cm and the common market length 40 to 50 cm. The colour varies with the habitat, but the back is usually brown, or ‘dark rifle green’ as Day describes it, shading to yellow and a lighter colour on the belly. Note the arched lateral line.
