REMARKS Maximum length of females 1 metre. Males are smaller. The usual market size is from 30 to 70 cm. The back is slate grey or bluish. The large mouth is grey-black inside, which accounts for, e.g., the Danish name, from which the Irish name colmoĂ­r is probably derived. The hake has no barbel.
