REMARKS Maximum length 2 metres, usual market length 75 cm to 1 metre. The back is bronze-green or brown, and often marbled. Note the dark spot at the rear of the first dorsal fin. The dorsal and anal fins have white edges.

This species, which is commercially valuable, is mainly taken around Iceland, in the Norwegian Sea and on the west coasts of the British Isles.
