  • About

Family Scophthalmidae

  • Portuguese: Rodovalho, Patrúcia
  • Spanish: Rémol
  • French: Barbue
  • Dutch: Griet
  • German: Kleist, Glattbutt
  • Polish: Naglad
  • Russian: Kalkas
  • Swedish: Slätvar
  • Norwegian: Slettvar

REMARKS Maximum length 75 cm, common length 30 cm. The back is sandy-brown or grey, with freckles. Unlike the turbot, the brill has scales and lacks tubercles. The shape is also different. But otherwise the two species resemble each other, and one could describe the brill as a smaller, shallow-water version of the turbot. Hybrids, between the two species, are not unknown.
