The megrim is a deep-water fish, with a range from the Mediterranean to Iceland. It is fished commercially, for example in the Biscay area and to the west and south of Ireland. The related Lepidorhombus boscii (Risso) is often taken with it, but may be distinguished by a pair of distinct black spots on both dorsal and anal fins, at the rear.
