  • About

Family Pleuronectidae

REMARKS Maximum length 80 cm. This species of Arctic and sub-Arctic waters is like the true halibut in many respects, but smaller. It is therefore sometimes called little halibut; a name not to be confused with the term chicken halibut, which refers to a small true halibut.

Note the almost straight lateral line. The colour of the eyed side is blackish grey or brown, and the underside is almost as dark. Common names in other languages mostly mean black halibut, for example blåkveite (Norway).
