REMARKS Maximum length 200 cm. This shark has a dull-grey back. A close relation with which it has often been confused, Mustelus asterias Cloquet, has small white spots on its back and sides.

These sharks have a range from the Mediterranean to the North Sea. They have a relation on the American side of the Atlantic, Mustelus canis (Mitchill).
