REMARKS This slimy and antique creature may reach a length of over 1 metre. It has a greenish-grey, bluish-brown or olive-brown back.

The class Marsipobranchii, to which the lamprey belongs, is a small one, and its members have the distinction of being the most primitive of living vertebrates.
