REMARKS Maximum length only 6 cm. This little creature, shown on the left in side view, is greyish or brownish in life, and translucent. It lives on sandy ground and has the ability to change its colour to match whatever sand it is on (or in, since it often burrows into the sand, leaving only the antennae projecting). Its range is from the Mediterranean to Norway.
