REMARKS Maximum length just over 2½ cm.

The shells are usually dark grey or brown, but many other colours occur, such as whitish green and even ‘red or rufous-brown, with narrow bands of smoke colour’ (Lovell, who thus reminds us of that useful but neglected word ‘rufous’).
