  • About

Also known as Grumbierekuche (Potato Cake), Schwenkfelderkuche (Schwenk-felder Cake), Heidelbarrier Graewwelkuche (Heidelberg Gravel Cake), and Allenschteddler Zuckerkuche (Allentown Dutchcake). This yeast-raised cake, made with potatoes, eggs, and wheat flour, is baked in a round bread-loaf shape. It is covered with large buttery crumbs called grevel, a word derived from the same root as gribble. The cake is still available in many farm markets. It is usually eaten as a breakfast cake with coffee.
