  • About

Also known as jac, fenesi, and nangka, this giant tropical fruit grows on a tree native to India. The fruit can be round to oval, and each measures between 1 and 3 feet (30 and 90 cm) in length and 10 and 20 inches (25 to 50 cm) in diameter. Jackfruit generally weigh 15 to 30 pounds (6 kg 825 g to 13 kg 650 g) but some have reportedly grown as heavy as 65 pounds (29 kg 575 g). The skin is pale green to yellowish-brown and completely covered with short, sharp spikes. There are two main varieties: one with soft, sweet flesh, and the other with a crisper texture that is less sweet. In both, the pulp is white to yellow and full of large seeds. The roasted seeds are considered a delicacy all over the tropics.
