Ackee this tree fruit from Jamaica is most closely associated with the national dish ackee and saltfish. A bright red bell-shaped fruit, the flesh of the raw ackee is cream with large glossy black seeds. These must be discarded as they are poisonous. Ackee is yellow when cooked and looks similar to scrambled egg. It has a delicate flavour and is available in tins in the UK.
