Southeast Asian Flavors: Adventures in Cooking the Foods of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia & Singapore

By Robert Danhi

Published 2008

  • About
Presentations of food in Thailand are more intricate and ornate than those in Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Broad leaves of the banana plant are often used as a natural serving plate. This tradition has evolved into an art form, too. Leaves are folded to create decorative displays, often representing the king’s emblem or palace. Although such elaborate decorations were once held inside the walls of the king’s palace, these traditional techniques are now taught in schools, homes, and restaurants across Thailand.
