Among the more picturesque sights of the south are the herds of goats which literally climb the argan trees to harvest the pungently flavoured nuts.

One of the most picturesque sights of the pre-Sahara areas of the Souss are the herds of little black and white goats that are pastured among the argan trees on the roads from Agadir and Taroudant to the desert. Here the Berbers often cook with a highly flavoured oil extracted from the nuts from these trees. Argan oil is, as far as Iโ€™m concerned, an acquired taste, but the goats love the acid, pungent flavour of the nuts and literally climb high into the trees to harvest them.
