When Fi Barge saw her husband, Ala, driving up the hill towards the farmhouse with a horsebox on the back of his Land Rover, for a moment she thought her sweetheart had bought her a horse for her birthday. Not that she needed one – life was busy with a growing family perched on a hillside overlooking Loch Fyne where Ala runs Otter Ferry Seafish Ltd. But riding in the horsebox was a milking cow, a Friesian called Maria, and, Fi says, being so far away from shops, the one thing she did need was a constant supply of milk.
