Alan Winchester is a raconteur, keen historian, whisky expert and Master Distiller. As a schoolboy in Moray, he had been aware of the distilleries but he almost fell into whisky making by accident. With his ambition set on joining the Royal Navy, he took on a summer job as a guide at the Glenfarclas Visitor Centre, right next door to where three generations of his family farmed and still do. When the Royal Navy declined his application, Alan was offered a full-time job at the distillery and has never looked back. He soon realised how fascinating the process is and wanted to learn more by working in every department, which led to the pinnacle of his career as Master Distiller of The Glenlivet.
