  • About
Now that you are outfitted with a steamer of one sort or another, the thing to get down to is the actual process—how it works, the step by step of steaming, and some useful tools to help you on your way.

The first issue is to locate a reliable heat source. The obvious choice is the stovetop, but I often find it convenient at a large dinner to steam away from the stove on a hot plate that I can plug in most anywhere. This frees the stove for other cooking, and so long as the hot plate is outside the range of roving children or animals, I’m perfectly content to let it do its business on top of the washer, in a bedroom, on the porch, wherever.
