International sources indicate that fenugreek, a leguminous plant native to Western Asia and Southeastern Europe, is cultivated in much of the world: Africa, the Middle East, South America, the Mediterranean, China, and the Asian subcontinent. But if you’re looking for the fresh vegetable in the United States, it is only this last source that counts. If you want fenugreek greens, you must look primarily in Indian or Pakistani groceries and ask for them by their Hindi name, methi (pronounced met-hee).
