Including snowbank false morel, conifer false morel, edible false morel, snow mushroom, brain mushroom, and gyromitre (French)

DO NOT EAT OR SERVE THIS MUSHROOM OR ANY MUSHROOMS THAT RESEMBLE IT.

Gyromitra species can be life-threatening. I hate to say this. I have cooked them, eaten them, and spoken with celebrated chefs who still serve them. At present they are sold in Europe (usually as gyromitre) and North America (under the umbrella term “false morel”). They are considered a seasonal sine qua non by many international connoisseurs. But please, even if you have cooked, gathered, distributed, or consumed Gyromitra species in the past: reconsider.
