  • About

Also cocoyam, new cocoyam, coco, tannia, tanier, yautía (or malanga) blanca, yautía (or malanga) lila, yautía (or malanga) amarilla, and taro (the names overlap in Latin American and West Indian markets) Including white (blanca), lilac (lila), and yellow (amarilla) forms

Yautía and malanga are the Puerto Rican and Cuban names, respectively, for cormels (not tubers) that have more, and more confusing, international names than you can invent. They’re the two most common names in the United States for Xanthosoma species and are equally important. To be reasonable and fair, I alternate the names in the text that follows.
