  • About

Agaricus arvensis Can grow to an enormous size and is found in pastures where it grows in rings, some of which may be many metres across; it also grows at wood margins and in thickets. Horse mushrooms bruise and discolour yellow and have a distinct smell of aniseed. Although fresh specimens bruise yellow this is not normally apparent in the base of the stem; make sure it is not the Yellow Stainer (previous page) before you try it. They can be found from summer to autumn.
