  • About

Kuehneromyces mutabilis Grows in dense clumps on stumps or at the base of deciduous trees and when in a nice, fresh condition, it is good to eat. It can be found from spring right through to early winter. Take great care that you identify it correctly as there are poisonous mushrooms of a similar size that also grow on wood. It is named ‘mutabilis’ because it changes as it absorbs moisture and is then darker in colour, often it will be found with a lighter centre and a darker margin.
