  • About

Prunus domestica ssp. insititia Found growing wild in hedges near orchards and gardens from which it presumably escaped years ago, the fruit is blue-black and larger than sloes. The damson is usually thought to be a cultivated form of bullace.

Prunus domestica ssp. italica Very closely related to the previous subspecies so that it is, in fact, also known as bullace. This is presumed to be an escape from cultivation and is found in hedges. The fruit is green like the domestic greengage.
