  • About

production of a particular vineyard is normally measured as yield. The world’s production of wine still totals between 260 and 290 million hl (6,800 million–7,650 million gal) annually, and is considerably in excess of consumption, leading to continued surplus, but there is wide variation according to vintage. See world production and, for annual totals, surplus production. The tables in Appendix 2 show the world’s significant wine-producing countries and oiv figures for their total area of vineyard, annual wine production, and per capita consumption.
