Like chocolate, caramel can bring back memories of childhood pleasures. Custards, toffee apples, and candies played a huge part in our celebrations and after-school treats and, as adults, we look back on these pleasures with a sense of comfort.
But there’s no need to hark back to the childhood delights of sweet treats as an excuse for enjoying them. It’s acceptable to indulge a little nowadays and we should allow ourselves a bit of luxury, without guilt, and without overdoing it!
Caramel is a source of deep satisfaction. It’s a marvel to behold in any form—hard, soft, liquid, or frozen—but it’s on the palate that the complexity of flavor and texture really comes into its own.
